Len Dixon formed Leda Suspension Ltd. in 1978. Len had previously worked for Armstrong Patents Co. Ltd. for 9 years, as technical liaison engineer based at Ford Motor Company in the UK. He subsequently worked for Woodhead Manufacturing, another original equipment shock absorber manufacturer, for 5 years, and set up a shock absorber reconditioning plant for them in Essex, UK. The production went from 0 to 8000 units per month within 18 months. Len then started his own business in 1978 trading originally as Chelmsford Suspension Services, and later changing the name to Leda Suspension in 1980. ![]() The company was based near Chelmsford, Essex, and while there, they purchased another premises on the same site to increase space to 2500 sq. ft. Leda moved premises in December 1996, to Braintree, Essex by purchasing a 6000 sq. ft. factory. The total reorganization of the factory, and combining 2 premises into 1, has enabled Leda to increase production and improve the performance and durability of the product. They have recently introduced their electronic suspension system, which enables the driver to make damping adjustments from the driving position. The company now manufactures its own brand of adjustable damping struts and shock absorbers for all categories of motorsport, specialist low volume car manufactures and high performance cars. Leda Suspension exhibits every year at the Autosport Racing Show in the UK, and in 1999 started exhibiting in the USA for the first time. They export their products to 38 countries worldwide. |
